#99925 My first post, introducing myself.

Posted by DLS350 on 25 November 2014 - 06:24 PM

Thought I should introduce myself before I started responding to posts. As you can see from my screen name I'm a DLS fan but definitely not a homer. Been watching DLS since 1981, long before the internet, streak, etc.. How I started following them is a long story I'll try and make short. I went to a local high school, Pleasant Hill High and graduated in 1978, budget cuts closed it in 1980. Started dating a girl who's brother played on the JV team and we went to a game, been watching them ever since and kind of adopted them since my HS closed. I have ZERO affiliation with the school, my three kids went to a smaller Christian school in the area. I've always liked high school football, played myself, was a better than average athlete but wasn't good enough to go anywhere like most high school athletes. Anyway, this was long winded but wanted to get it out there. Not really sure how much I'll actually post but have been reading this site from day one as well as all the Rivals sites for quite a while. I don't and won't trash talk or get long winded about where DLS is ranked, not my style. Anyways, Hi!

#93096 Happy Anniversary. Thank you.

Posted by Dallas Jackson on 15 November 2014 - 07:56 AM

Hey Gents,

Today marks the one year since the launch of NationalHSFootball.com.

It opened with a very ugly storefront and quickly changed into its current iteration at the turn of the new year. There has been 738 content items written for you to read and 1000s of posts on The Varsity Board.

None of this would have happened without everyone making a move from an established location to this spot.

At times I am trying and I am sure have angered many of you with perceived slights to your region or school but me and my team have always aimed to make this the best site for National High School Football you can get.

There are BIG THINGS coming in 2015 and I have been in discussions to expand operations. So buckle up because there is more in store!

Thank You for making this possible.

#95524 FSU at it again? Is this true?

Posted by Dallas Jackson on 19 November 2014 - 11:15 AM

this broke a day before the UM game.

Local police gave him a fine and pat on the butt.

All the while driving with a suspended license, hit and run, then back at the scene later, happens after 2:30 AM, no questions about drinking earlier.

University Pres. says the police acted accordingly...

Even professional athlete's get DUIs.. and jail time. Not going to happen in that town though. Looks like one very corrupt police department.

Reap what you sew boys..

The 30 for 30 about this team will be awesome in 10 years.

What if I told you that the Tallahassee Police Department helped one team win two national titles.....

#104127 BTW and Central have the most haters

Posted by MacMittens1112 on 02 December 2014 - 07:05 AM

It's because they STINK!!! I've seen Miami Central against Booker T. and Hoover!!! And they don't want NONE of the HOG AIR of Colquitt!!! Central shoulda beaten Booker T. except for bad time management!!! And Central BARELY escaped losing to a mediocre Stephenson team in Georgia, who lost TWICE by fourteen plus, and was gone in the AAAAA first round playoffs!!!

The best team in FLAAAAWDA is an STA team that was HUMILIATED by a mediocre Don Bosco Prep!!! 2013 was an ABERRATION for Booker T.!!! You boys are back to the time when Grayson beat Miami Central 35-3, two years ago!!!

Lol... Crazy part is we searched for a game Booker T. No one but Tucker stepped up to the plate, So before you throw out that should coulda crap. Think about that I love us over Colquitt all day and three times. Ppl keep throwing Tucker out there when it was raining and the game started 2 hrs late. Coaches got a lead and sat on it cause cause we had Central next week. I guarantee nobody starts off the season bringing in new starters and go on the road to play anybody on back to back weeks. Nobody but Central & Booker T does that. Ppl throw teams out there but they don't step up to plate cause they was in fear of Booker T . Doing what they did to Norcross or Central doing what they did to Bosco. Now everybody got a negative opinion and teams that would beat us but none stepped up instead of the ones we played..foh..

#102150 Booker T Washington 14, Cocoa 12, final.

Posted by 95TigerPride on 29 November 2014 - 10:26 AM

It saddens me that we will revert to calling names. I was on the side line and both teams were trying to intimidate each other. I have a lot of respect for coach Harris and his staff they coached a great game taking what the defense gave them. I also have great respect for coach Wilks and his staff and what he has done with the Cocoa football program.

It was a hard fought game and at the end of the game as a Cocoa player was lying in the end zone in defeat a BTW player came and help him up. They embraced each other patted each other on the helmets and shook hands. As the teams shook hands on the 50 BTW player and coaches was telling Cocoa players that this was there toughies game and that they hand a lot of respect for Cocoa.

These kid have a lot of respect for each other they also talk to each other during track season. These kid know each other through social media so yes they do smack talk but at the end of the day they respect each other...

Analogizing to the stock up/stock down theme, its a matter of which stock has more value. If a company announced the departure of their CFO, you'd see the price go down, even if they fill it with a capable replacement. Once the replacement proves his mettle, then the stock price goes up. My position is that DLS will assert strong Q4 earnings in the game formerly known as the last game of the HSFB season.

i always found that so strange

Both those guys are more worldly and objective than myself. My humble opinion.

I like this list.  I'd add Maxchobian.  I'd add you too as one of the DLS guys.  I think you are aw shucksing it when it comes to claiming Prep and Gades are more worldly than you, but I also learn a hell of a lot from those two.    One of the funniest posts of this season was when you and I were discussing the interpretation of the NCS transfer rules.  It was late, and you suggested that rather than us trying to sort it out, we should instead just go have a beer and wait for Gades to show up and set us straight.  And he did.  It was a solid game plan.

what I said, which is true, DLS would simply have one of the Big 3 in NJ if they were in Bergen County. So it would have been a Big 4.

you let that inheritance stuff get to you

dls is a great program who was at the right time and place, they were not the best team in the country... maybe ever

Just be glad there's not an archive on rivals, or you'd be caught.

#104863 Answering Pops in this thread

Posted by Dallas Jackson on 03 December 2014 - 12:40 PM

Pops went into some length to bring up the 'unfair treatment' of DLS in another thread. I pulled it from there and brought it over here to address it because it is another classic case of the narrative being much different than the truth.

How good is it for a CA team to be #1 on the dynasty rankings of a poll that hates them?

  • 2009:  CA Open Champs DLS behind 2 multi-loss, early round exit teams from GA
  • 2010:  CA Open Champs (biggest championship game performance plus BG's biggest loss in the era of your poll) behind South Panola, which a.) didn't beat a top 100 team (different standards apply to SE teams, I guess) and had a rough playoff game vs #288 Olive Branch (+ 2 other teams, which I've got less issue with)
  • 2011:  CA Open Champs behind SIX FL teams including multiple losers and non-state champs in a state that hands them out like candy
  • 2012:  DLS #2 in the year when SOS didn't matter (won the comp poll, though)
  • 2013:  In two groups of 3-team coin flips, CA came on bottom in both:  a.) BTW, Allen, SJB, b.) MC, Desoto, DLS
  • 2014:  DLS gets bumped (no other poll did) for Allen's 4th game giving up 40 or 50+ points AND Colquitt's impressive 17-10 win over Milton

The HSFB100 does not 'hate' any team or any state. That has been debunked at every charge and this will continue on that path... with each season as asked by DLSPops.

In 2009 -- De La Salle got crushed by Don Bosco (which won the national title) and lost to Lakeland. It's best wins were over Serra (14-7) and in the Open game vs Crenshaw (28-14) in a game that was very tight until D'Anthony Thomas went out with an injury. Additionally it wasnt like Crenshaw was dominant in its path either barely beating Lakewood and Norco as its best wins and then played the City... many feel the CIF HAD to give the Open to Crenshaw that year.  DLS ended the year ranked No. 39 in the HSFB100 and was behind plenty of two-loss teams as you note but it was a two-loss team itself without exceptional talent. For the other polls: CalPreps had DLS at No. 31, I had it at No. 39, MaxPreps didnt have it ranked at all. It was West No. 7 on PrepNation and West No. 4 on the USAToday. All things considered, pretty fairly treated.

In 2010 -- DLS finished No. 4 after crushing Servite in the finals and having a quality win over Bishop Gorman -- which also lost its other OOS game to Hamilton (AZ) and it finished at No. 29. The rankings in 2010 circled all over the place at the top even more so than this year and when South Panola struggled with Olive Branch it was the same week that four of the Top 8 also lost so there was no one else to move into the No. 1 spot. It was also the same year that every other poll except the HSFB100 had Euless Trinity in the top spot all season. DLS finished No. 1 on CalPreps, No. 2 in USAToday, No. 3 on MaxPreps, No. 4 in the HSFB100 and No. 5 at PrepNation. Does not appear that it was any way mistreated there, either. We all know an undefeated Cali team is getting No. 1 on Cal as it has been each of the last four years there was an unbeaten Cal team. I was right in line with the other human polls.

In 2011 -- De La Salle was crushed 30-6 by an Aquinas team that limped to a 10-3 finish with losses to Cooper City, Miramar, and then Dwyer. It beat its usual treasure trove of NorCal tems and then Westlake in the finals. Still finishing No. 18 in the HSFB100 when Aquinas was No. 67. DLS was ranked lower here than all other polls with most having them 9, 10, or 11 -- the noted exception of No. 3 on CalPreps. Even looking back there isnt much of an argument to move DLS higher than that. The Top 10 were mostly undefeated with Dallas Skyline being in at No. 10 at 14-1 with an impossible loss to No. 9 SLC in the last two minutes. From there Manatee at No. 11 won 7A and lost to No. 2 DBP and No. 6 Good Counsel. No. 12 was Miami Norland with Duke Johnson that DLS wouldnt have beat... No. 13 is Archbishop Wood was loaded but we will put them in the maybe category for argument sake.... No. 14 is Prattville which won Alabama and performed exponentially better against St. Thomas Aquinas losing by 3 when it had a chance to win... No. 15 was unbeaten Maryville that we can call a maybe, too, as they are a program that traditionally doesnt play a tough schedule... No. 16 was Florida 8A winner Plant which beat No. 17 Miramar to win the title. Why that matters is because it was the lone loss for Miramar which actually beat Aquinas, 27-20 at Aquinas two week after DLS was trounced 30-6 at Aquinas. So MAYBE DLS could have been at No. 16 if we move Wood and Maryville behind it.

2012 -- Your biggest and maybe most legitimate gripe as John Curtis won without playing much of a schedule at all. DLS had its typical magic bullet with Centennial to end the season. The interesting part about your complaint though is that the HSFB100 was the highest human ranking for DLS at No. 2. The Computer had its traditional undefeated California team at No. 1 but Sports Illustrated had them at No. 4, Scout at No. 5, MaxPreps at No. 4, and USAT at No. 4. Both the HSFB100 and PrepNation had De La Salle at No. 2. The 'they won the compilation' claim was because the Computer had John Curtis in the 250s giving the title to DLS even though the HSFB100 was its highest human ranking. Hard to say DLS is 'hated' when this is part of the equation.

2013 -- DLS was the No. 6 team. There is not a nice way to break that to you. The shuffling of the Top 3 could have gone differently but that was part of the debate all year... maybe SJB was No. 1, maybe BTW, maybe Allen but DeSoto and Miami Central performed better against Allen and BTW than DLS did vs SJB and those teams were 4/5 in some order, too. Each also had other quality wins where DLS didnt play an OOS game to get comparison and beat Folsom and then lost to SJB in a game that was not as close as the 21-14 final. Not much more detail than that. The top three last year were all special and could have gone either way. Other polls agreed. Only PrepNation had DLS at No. 5. Student Sports had DLS at 6, HSFB100 had it 6, Scout had it 6, CalPreps had it 6, MaxPreps had it 8 and USAToday pushed it to 15.

As far as the claim that 2012 Curtis' schedule didnt keep it from a National Title so why should it hurt 2014 DLS is simple, too.

Curtis was healthy and loaded. DLS is neither.

Curtis had a DI baseball player as its QB, three DI RBs, two DI WRs, and two DI OL. It had 8 of 11 starters on the defense go DI and it murdered a weak schedule.

DLS does not have those numbers this year and so it is not apples-to-apples when comparing the two. Yes both are excellent programs, both are very well coached, and both play a soft schedule (I am not even going to try and pretend that the 2012 Curtis schedule holds a candle to 2014 DLS becuase the Spartan schedule this year is better) but each year is self contained.

This season there isnt that special team like John Curtis was in 2012. It is a bunch of teams with warts. We are separating them on educated analytics, subjective strength of schedule, plenty of that eye-ball stuff that people dont like when it goes against their team.

Simply put: 2014 DLS isnt 2012 John Curtis on the field.

DLS can very easily jump all three of the teams ahead of it right now with how it closes the year but who knows. Colquitt could also very easily lose either of the next two games (McE and Archer were the preseason favorites in GA and could hold those rankings true) and it becomes a moot point. Allen could easily lose either of its next two games and it is a moot point. Then it because picking Gorman or DLS in the end anyways...

That is for another day though.

The main point of this was to show you the facts of the case and talk you off the ledge as you are a good and valued poster. The narrative that the HSFB100 'hates' DLS is (as you can see) clearly disproven very easily and while you are a major DLS guy I hope you can appreciate how this was broken down.

Keep posting!

#104378 BTW and Central have the most haters

Posted by boobeemiles on 02 December 2014 - 03:41 PM

This has been my issue all year with these two teams, no other team have their 2014 ranking based on comparing them to their 2013 team. BTW and MC have to literally beat the ghost of the 2013 teams. Tell me how you do that? Meanwhile, everyone else gets to start with a clean slate. Allen gets a pass, SJB gets a pass. I don't have a problem with Allen being where they are because they prove it on the field. No one has beat them despite losing most of their defense. All I'm saying is, you have to extend the same logic to BTW. BTW is winning. Sometimes closer than some people would like in some low scoring games. Guess what, Allen is doing the same thing. Only difference is, Allen's close games are high scoring affairs. So for people that like offense over defense, (which is most people) that seems to be more acceptable. JMHO.

nope, nj is not in any mnc conversations

Of course NJ is not in any mnc discussions, but by saying Colquitt is not to be considered in those conversations is consistent with your contention that GA football is overrated and that the top NJ programs are better.

You calling out others for homerism is strange, and you saying you are not trying to convince others of anything is equally odd.
