The HSFB100 is compiled by national high school football analyst Dallas Jackson and is based on input given from in-person evaluations and tape breakdown by local high school sports writers, regional recruiting analysts, and coaches as well as other media partnerships. Read more about the poll philosophy here.
Rankings based on results of games played as of Monday, December 9.
Due to the inclement weather in Texas the HSFB100 was delayed until Tuesday this week to make sure results of the five ranked teams were included and the ripple effect of the games were registered.
Because the HSFB100 starts each poll new and at the class level having action in the highest four classes of the Lone Star State made the decision an easy one to make.
DeSoto downed Euless Trinity in the last minute of the game with Denton Guyer, Cedar Hill, and Aledo had a much easier time with its competition.
The weekend produced a change of several teams in the state with Cibolo Steele and Dallas Skyline being among the seven teams that turned over. Austin Lake Travis gained entrance as it advanced this week.
Seven teams entered the rankings this weekend, most notably two state champions — Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove and Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central.
With that a look at which teams are included in the updated HSFB100:
1 | Booker T. Washington | Miami | FL | 14-0 |
Florida Class 4A Champions: The season is over for the Tornadoes and the team kept its focus and brought home a state title by beating Bolles this week, 40-21. There is very little separation between Washington and the two teams below it so it is not a lock to claim a national title.
2 | Allen | Allen | TX | 14-0 |
For the second week in a row Allen had a more impressive victory over a more impressive level of competition. The Eagles defeated HSFB100 Westfield, 48-13. It also had its quarterback named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas.
3 | St. John Bosco | Bellflower | CA | 14-0 |
Of the three teams that are legitimately in competition for a national title, St. John Bosco had the best win of the top three teams. It gave up a blocked punt for the first score of the game against HSFB100 Mater Dei. It then rolled off the next 34 points to win, 34-7.
4 | Central | Miami | FL | 12-1 |
Central got a test from HSFB100 Mainland and passed with a 28-15 victory to advance to the state finals. There is no doubt that this is the best one-loss team in the country and it would win most every other state title.
5 | Mountain Pointe | Phoenix | AZ | 14-0 |
Arizona Division I Champions: Mountain Pointe wrapped up its state championship by defeating HSFB100 Hamilton. This was a stellar season for the wire-to-wire No. 1 team in Arizona.
6 | De La Salle | Concord | CA | 13-0 |
It is another checked box victory for De La Salle as it beat Deer California, 49-17. The march to the CIF Open Bowl is one that still has two more stops. This week the team will face its most difficult offense to stop as it will play HSFB100 Folsom. The final ranking for De La Salle will be decided in the next two weeks.
7 | Central Catholic | Pittsburgh | PA | 15-0 |
This week the Vikings scored more points than it allowed yards in the state semifinals. It beat Lower Dauphin 45-0 and gave up just 21 yards and one first down. This team could push for the No. 5 place nationally if it is able to have a similar performance this week in the state finals.
8 | Katy | Katy | TX | 14-0 |
Katy took over the No. 2 spot in Texas for the first time this season as it rolled through HSFB100 foe Manvel, 56-14. The game was one of the most impressive of the weekend as the Tigers rolled off the final five touchdowns after the Mavericks closed the game to 21-14.
9 | DeSoto | DeSoto | TX | 14-0 |
DeSoto scored the final points of the game with just 0:46 left on the clock. This is the second time this postseason that the Eagles have needed a little bit of magic to keep its season alive. The strength of schedule is impressive but other teams are handling HSFB100 programs with ease and it cost DeSoto a few places nationally. Its placement — as it has been since the playoff brackets were released — is moot. DeSoto will largely be judged by this week against Allen more than its second win of the season over Euless Trinity.
10 | Northwestern | Rock Hilll | SC | 15-0 |
South Carolina 4A Division II Champions: Northwestern was the top team in the state from the start of the season and it capped its season with a state title win over Stratford.
11 | Mallard Creek | Charlotte | NC | 14-0 |
Last Week: Defeated Butler, 56-14.
12 | Hoover | Hoover | AL | 15-0 |
Alabama Class 6A Champions: Hoover fought and clawed to reach the title game and then relied on its defense and rushing attack to win the state title against HSFB100 Auburn. This could be a team that has enough returning for preseason No. 1 consideration in 2014.
13 | Oscar Smith | Chesapeake | VA | 14-0 |
Last Week: Defeated Colonial Forge, 17-0.
14 | Moeller | Cincinnati | OH | 14-1 |
Ohio Division I Champions: Ohio had a new team look like the top team most every week but in the end Moeller earned a repeat of its state title performance.
15 | Mentor | Mentor | OH | 13-2 |
Season complete: Mentor steadily improved as the season went and it fell just short of a state title as it lost to Moeller by three in the finals.
16 | Apopka | Apopka | FL | 13-1 |
Last Week: Defeated HSFB100 Plant, 45-29.
17 | St. Joseph Regional | Montvale | NJ | 10-1 |
New Jersey Non-Public Group 3 Champions: St. Joe would have been a top five team had it not fallen to Don Bosco late in the season. It concluded the year with an impressive win over Pope John Paul XXII to win its title.
18 | Dwyer | West Palm Beach | FL | 14-0 |
Last Week: Defeated HSFB100 East Lake, 31-24.
19 | Bellevue | Bellevue | WA | 14-0 |
Washington Class 3A Champions: It was hard to evaluate Bellevue because the competition level in Washington was down considerably this season. The Wolverines are the class of the Pacific Northwest and while it may not be fair the team will almost always needs a signature win to justify higher rankings.
20 | Jenks | Jenks | OK | 11-0 |
Last Week: Idle. | ||||
21 | Bishop Gorman | Las Vegas | NV | 13-2 |
Nevada Division I Champions: The Gaels put together a difficult schedule but its wins were marginalized by what St. John Bosco is doing in California and its ranking is now based more on its good losses to Mountain Pointe and Booker T. Washington.
22 | North Gwinnett | Suwannee | GA | 13-1 |

Dang Pitt C.C at 7.. must’ve saw something you liked with them..they’ve done everything right so far but their schedule lacks big time competition..DBPs 42-0 beating of their state championship opponent doesn’t help. You see them being able to beat Katy and DeSoto?
The schedule isnt too bad.
North Allegheny, Gateway, Woodland Hills are three quality opponents and PCC dominated them.
No worse than some others that have also gotten high rankings. The defense is better than I would have admitted at mid-season and the offense has a very strong OL, a FSU-bound QB, and a RB that should be getting low-level DI or DII looks.
