The 44-year old future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback has informed the coaching staff at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove that he will not be reprising his role as offensive coordinator for the upcoming season.

Sources close to the situation informed NationalHSFootball.com that the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl champion made the decision to step aside and continue to spend time with his family.
Calls to neither Favre nor his agent Bus Cook were returned for comment.
In a recent interview with Sports Talk 570 in Washington, Favre said that the further away from football he has gotten the more enjoyment he has found.
“My family took a backseat for 20 years,” he said. “My 14-year-old daughter plays volleyball and is in the ninth grade and will be playing again the next three years. I’ve taken trips that I never thought I’d take. I’ve gone to Yellowstone and I’ve gone to Glacier National Park. We’ve gone down to the Bahamas, we’ve done things that really everybody in my family just kind of waited for.”
One source said that the Oak Grove staff expects to see Favre on the sidelines and at the occasional practice but that he was ready to step away from coaching.
After winning the state championship game on a fake field goal Favre displayed the same youthful exuberance that many remembered of his Packer championship days.
“I can’t say it’s like a Super Bowl, but it’s pretty close,” Favre said at the time. “It really is. It’s a different type of feeling, but I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Staff at Oak Grove — including head coach Nevil Barr — said that Favre was just one of the guys.
“I just like the way he is around the kids,” Barr said. “He’s got so much enthusiasm and the players feed off that.”
Quarterback coach Kirk McCarty echoed the sentiment.
“As strange as this may sound, he’s just become one of the coaches,” McCarty said. “He doesn’t want special treatment and he doesn’t get any. He’s held to the same standard as everyone else.”
Sources also said that having Favre answer the bell and return to the sidelines fulltime would not surprise them.
With Favre, it wouldn’t surprise many.
