Four teams make move into Media Compilation Top 25

Four teams elbowed into the lower half of the Media Compilation during National Week One of the high school football season.

Colquitt County, Ben Davis, and Gonzaga all have at least one impressive victory to its credit while Don Bosco is yet to take the field but with 2009 and 2011 Media Compilation National Championships its pedigree is hard to question.

View Past Polls:

The six major polls considered are the NationalHSFootball.com HSFB100; Scout.com Top 50; USAToday Super 25; MaxPreps Xcellent25; PrepNation Top 25; and Freeman Computer Top 25.

For a mathematically sound compilation each team is given points from 40 to 16 for being inside the Top 25 of each of those six polls with no points awarded for any additional rankings due to the differing size of each poll. Points are assigned in decreasing value starting with 40 being awarded for No. 1 and on down to 16 for No. 25.

The Media Compilation Top 25 will be updated each Tuesday of the season.

Colquitt knocked out previous No. 11 Hoover, 35-14, a week after a downing then-HSFB100 ranked Mill Creek, 31-14.

Ben Davis checked a box this week against Avon but it opened its season with a 44-19 win over Indianapolis Cathedral.

Gonzaga was the lone Maryland/DC team to represent well in out-of-state showdowns this week as it opened its season with a 42-3 whipping of Nashaminy (PA). The Eagles will face off against No. 12 Centreville this week.

Don Bosco will take to the field against No. 17 St. Joseph Prep. The Prep fell three spots in the Media Compilation Top 25 after downing Mt. Carmel of Chicago, 28-27.

RK (L) POINTS TEAM HSFB100 USAT Max PN Scout CPU
1 (1) 233 St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) 1 3 3 1 1 4
St. Thomas Aquinas put a running clock on an American Heritage team that was receiving votes in the Media Compilation poll. Its reward was losing two spots in the Computer poll.
2 (2) 231 Allen (Texas) 2 4 2 4 2 1
Allen downed No. 24 Denton Guyer in a 55-41 contest. It was a wider gap at halftime but the Wildcats continued to fight to make the score respectable.
3 (4) 220 St. Edward (Lakewood, OH) 4 8 5 2 5 2
St. Edward moved up two spots in the USAToday poll and one each in the MaxPreps and Computer rankings after trouncing Gilman on Sunday.
4 (3) 219 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) 3 2 7 6 3 6
The Braves were idle this week and slid up one spot in the MaxPreps rankings.
5 (8) 217 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) 5 1 8 3 9 3
The Gaels made a major jump in points as it went from unranked in the Scout Top 25 to the No. 9 spot after blasting Servite.
6 (5) 207 Cedar Hill (Texas) 8 9 1 8 6 7
Cedar Hill has fallen from No. 2 to No. 5 and now No. 6. The team lost two spots in the HSFB100 and Computer rankings as well as one each from USAToday and PrepNation.
7 (6) 205 Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL) 13 5 4 5 4 10
After starting the year unranked in the computer model the Tornadoes moved up to the Top 10. Booker T. Washington was moved down one spot in the HSFB100 and it is now the lowest ranking of the compilation.
8 (7) 171 Miami Central (Miami, FL) 25 6 9 9 8 18
Miami Central was tweaked by five polls one spot in either direction but the HSFB100 dropped the Rockets 10 spots while the Computer model moved it down seven after an uninspiring victory over Stephenson in Georgia.
9 (9) 169 De La Salle (Concord, CA) 6 21 10 12 11 17
De La Salle downed Jesuit 63-0 and most every poll checked the box for the Spartans. It moved up three in the USAToday poll, two each in the HSFB100 and PrepNation, one in MaxPreps and the Computer while PrepNation knocked it one spot.
10 (10) 166 Katy (Texas) 7 11 11 10 25 14
Katy remained in the middle of everyone’s pack but scored enough for a Top 10 placement. It will not lose until mid-November at the earliest and probably will not be rewarded with upward movement by many.
11 (13) 150 Buford (Georgia) 15 19 21 7 13 21
Buford was the beneficiary of playing two games while Centreville has been idle. It moved up to take the place of Hoover while outscoring opponents 73-0 to open the year.
12 (12) 140 Centreville (Clifton, VA) 20 7 6 13 19
Centreville lost multiple spots in the PrepNation and Scout polls this week as it sat idle. It is common for teams that start the season late to buoy. The team will have a test this week and should see legitimate movement next week.
13 (21) 132 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) 14 13 16 25 5
Mater Dei was a major gainer this week after it beat a quality Corona Centennial program, 38-18. It went from unranked to No. 14 in the HSFB100, unranked to No. 25 at PrepNation, and moved up seven spots in the MaxPreps poll.
14 (15) 122 St. Peter’s (Jersey City, NJ) 19 10 19 15 20
St. Peter’s got similar treatment as Centreville as it s buoying in polls without playing a game to date. It moved in every poll it was ranked in this week and lost a cumulative one point but gained a spot in the poll.
15 (19) 112 Folsom (California) 12 14 17 9
The Computer poll readjusted on Folsom after dropping it nine spots in Week Zero is moved it back up six placed following Week One. The HSFB100 was also buyers in the Bulldogs moving the team up nine spots in its Top 25.
16 (16) 107 DeSoto (Texas) 12 16 14 15
DeSoto remained off the ballot of the HSFB100 and the USAToday 25 for the second straight week — although it inched close in the HSFB100. It was a nono-factor in the other polls movement.
17 (14) 103 St. Joseph’s (Philadelphia, PA) 15 22 16 8
The Prep was most effected by a drop by the HSFB100. The Hawks fell from No. 18 to unranked after an ugly victory over Mt. Carmel in Chicago. It went up three at MaxPreps and down three at PrepNation.
18 (–) 91 Colquitt Co. (Moultrie, GA) 16 24 22 11
Colquitt beat Hoover and took its spot in a handful of the polls. The Packers looked better in besting the Bucs than did Miami Central but only the HSFB100 recognized that in the ranking of the two teams.
19t (22) 87 Archbishop Wood (Warminster, PA) 18 7 11
Two Top 15 placements by the Scout and Computer rankings pulled this team up after crushing DeMatha on the field. The Computer reacted with a major 11 position move.
19t (20) 87 Bellevue (Washington) 9 13 14
Bellevue — like the other three idle teams ahead of it — buoyed. It went up in the three polls that ranked it but didn’t do anything on the field to gain the attention of the three that has it outside the Top 25.
21t (–) 68 Ben Davis (Indianapolis, IN) 17 15 23
Ben Davis was the highest point getter to be outside the rankings last week and pulled in nine additional votes this week to move into the Compilation Top 25.
21t (23) 68 Warren Easton (New Orleans, LA) 21 14 20
The Eagles will get onto the field this week and have its chance to start justifying the early hype. It was up one spot in two polls and down one in the other as it was idle.
23 (–) 69 Don Bosco (Ramsey, NJ) 23 18 21
The Iron Men was tied with Ben Davis having 59 points last week but it gained 10 points while sitting idle and moved into the Compilation Top 25. It plays St. Joseph this week and one of the two will likely be out of the poll next week.
24 (24) 60 Guyer (Denton, TX) 10 12
Scout and the Computer were the only polls that had Denton Guyer ranked last week and they maintained that this week. Both only marginally slid the team down — one spot at Scout and two in the Computer — after losing to No. 2 Allen.
25 (–) 59 Gonzaga (Washington, DC) 20 22 22
Gonzaga blasted Neshaminy (PA) and got into the bottom of three polls which was enough to go from receiving votes to bumping an idle Jenks (OK) team for the last spot.
