Bishop Gorman a unanimous No. 1 in Media Compilation Top 25

Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) has become the first unanimous No. 1 for the Media Compilation Top 25 of the season.

Following the loss of previously top-ranked Don Bosco (Ramsey, NJ) the Gaels swept all six polls to tally all 240 possible points. De La Salle (Concord, CA) and Allen (Texas) spaced themselves evenly at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, with 10 point gaps.

View Past Polls:

The six major polls considered are the NationalHSFootball.com HSFB100; Scout.com Top 50; USAToday Super 25; MaxPreps Xcellent25; PrepNation Top 25; and Freeman Computer Top 25.

For a mathematically sound compilation each team is given points from 40 to 16 for being inside the Top 25 of each of those six polls with no points awarded for any additional rankings due to the differing size of each poll. Points are assigned in decreasing value starting with 40 being awarded for No. 1 and on down to 16 for No. 25.

The Media Compilation Top 25 will be updated each Tuesday of the season.

Bishop Gorman opened its season with a playoff-like run through six quality opponents in six weeks — of which two are ranked in the Media Compilaton Top 25 and two are receiving votes.

Its best win is a 34-31 decision over No. 6 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) in a game that was not as close as the final score.

It also has a 23-20 overtime victory over No. 15 Bingham (South Jordan, UT), a miraculous 43-42 comeback win against Centennial (Corona, CA), and an impressive 48-27 conquest of Servite (Anaheim, CA).

The team will have to fight off charges from the next three teams as each stands to gain substantial strength of schedule points over the next 10 weeks while Bishop Gorman will not be tested.

RK (L) POINTS TEAM HSFB100 USAT Max PN Scout CPU
1 (1) 240 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) 1 1 1 1 1 1
The Gaels take control of the top spot in the poll with the loss by Don Bosco marking the first time this season there has been a unanimous No. 1 team. Bishop Gorman is not going to lose the rest of the season as it marches through its Nevada competition and will be at the mercy of public opinion. It ascended with the strength of schedule but could tumble due to the same metric.
2 (3) 230 De La Salle (Concord, CA) 2 4 2 2 3 3
De La Salle gained the spot left by Don Bosco in most every poll. The HSFB100 already had the Spartans at No. 2 and the Computer saw Paramus Catholic jump the NorCal power pushing it from No. 2 to No. 3. The best of its schedule is mostly in the rearview mirror as well with Jesuit, Serra, Byrnes, Del Oro and Servite being a quality slate. It will still see a test in the Open Division Bowl to impress human voters and had the CIF not eliminated the Open Regional Bowl it could have added a game with No. 8 Folsom.
3 (4) 220 Allen (Texas) 5 2 3 4 2 10
Allen went in different direction in five of the six polls with the USAToday being the lone holdover, keeping the team at No. 2. The Eagles slid up three total points and one spot in the Media Compilation Top 25. It beat Hebron 44-10 in a game that was otherwise unremarkable save for an onside kick that made it onto ESPN’s Top Plays.
4 (18) 212 Paramus Catholic (Paramus, NJ) 4 6 4 5 13 2
Paramus Catholic was the major gainer of the week as it downed previous No. 1 Don Bosco, 21-14. It moved from unranked to No. 6 in the USAToday and unranked to No. 13 at Scout. The Paladins also slid up in the four other polls that had it ranked the week prior. The Computer was the highest on the team last week having it at No. 6 and continued to show belief as the team is now No. 2 — and within striking distance of Bishop Gorman. The Computer already lists Paramus Catholic as having a better strength of schedule than Bishop Gorman and with the remaining schedules of both teams it is only a matter of time for Paramus Caatholic to jump the Gaels. If PC goes unbeaten it will cause a split title this year and may push some human pollsters to tilt to the New Jersey team, too.
5 (5) 209 Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL) 10 3 5 3 4 12
The Tornadoes won an uninspiring contest with neighborhood rivals, Miami Northwestern, and buoyed in every poll. Ultimately the team lost three points while maintaining the No. 5 spot in the Media Compilation. It is likely to be jumped in more polls as the season concludes as the schedule does not provide much.
6 (6) 206 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) 9 8 7 7 5 4
In what has to be one of the most odd instances of rankings, the Braves defeated No. 10 Mater Dei and was largely viewed as checking the box. St. John Bosco did not gain a single placement bump in the HSFB100, the USAToday, nor PrepNation. It slid up for nominal gains in the other three polls but where Paramus Catholic rose quickly for knocking off a Top 10 team, SJB was shrugged off. The Braves still have multiple challenges in the Trinity League, Pac-5 playoffs, and potentially a Bowl game.
7 (8) 185 DeSoto (Texas) 6 14 6 14 11 11
The Eagles gained four points from the USAToday and moved up to No. 7 in the Media Compilation Poll with the loss by Don Bosco. The Eagles beat Mansfield this week, 49-21, but was just happy to leave mostly healthy. It has a showdown with No. 23 Cedar Hill in two weeks and then a playoff path that will lead to a game with No. 3 Allen. As always with DeSoto it will eventually be on the defense to make enough plays to get it a state title.
8 (8) 176 Folsom (California) 14 20 8 15 8 5
The only place to leave Folsom alone this week was MaxPreps which held steady at No. 8, mirroring the Media Compilation Poll. IT went down in the HSFb100, PrepNation, and Computer rankings and up within the USAToday and Scout. The Bulldogs beat Nevada Union by 10 scores but lost one overall point.
9 (2) 175 Don Bosco (Ramsey, NJ) 8 22 9 6 15 7
Don Bosco was dropped down in every poll coming off of its loss to Paramus Catholic. The Computer was most favorable as it only fell four places. It dropped six at PrepNation, seven in the HSFB100, nine on MaxPreps, 15 from Scout, and a whopping 19 in the USAToday poll. USAToday and Scout were the only two polls not to have Paramus Catholic ranked entering last week so perception of the loss was weighed differently in those polls.
10 (7) 171 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) 12 14 11 16 14 8
Mater Dei was punished more harshly last for beating Westlake by a single point then this week where it actually lost to St. John Bosco. The Monarchs remained ranked at the same spot in the Scout poll, dropped one at PrepNation, two in the HSFB100 and USAToday, and three by MaxPreps as well as the Computer algorithm. Its rankings will still be tested by its foes in the Trinity, Pac-5, and potentially a bowl game.
11 (11) 158 Buford (Georgia) 19 12 14 12 6 25
Buford beat another inferior opponent and lost a handful of spots in the polls as other programs continue to jump the Wolves. It kept its spot at No. 11 overall but objects in the rearview mirror are much closer this week.
12t (10) 154 St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) 17 24 18 10 7 16
St. Thomas Aquinas was collateral damage this week as the Raiders dropped over 20 points and slid out of the Top 10 because it had already lost to Don Bosco which fell to Paramus Catholic. It fell 13 places in the USAToday — behind teams like Eden Prairie (MN), Webb City (MO), Fulton (TN), among others — to No. 24. It lost a few spots in four other polls but actually climbed one at Scout which did not adjust the team to being behind Don Bosco.
12t (14) 154 Colquitt Co. (Moultrie, GA) 3 5 13 9 21
Colquitt downed an unbeaten Lee County team this week which didn’t make for much of a move in the polls that already had the Packers ranked but jumping from unranked to No. 21 in the Computer added 20 points to its total. Colquitt plays Valdosta this week and still has Camden County on the schedule before the playoffs. IF it runs to a Georgia state title it could be in line for a Top 5 finish.
14 (12) 143 Miami Central (Miami, FL) 13 7 12 13 17
Miami Central dropped in four of the five polls that have the Rockets ranked. The USAToday kept the team at No. 7. The Rockets blanked Norland and has local battles with Northwestern, Carol City, and Jackson to close the regular season. It could see No. 24 Mainland in the playoffs as well as Armwood.
15 (15) 125 Bingham (South Jordan, UT) 15 10 15 18 22
For the third week in a row the Miners rest at No. 15 but the gap has grown between the top team in Utah and the rest of the pack. It gave up a lot of points in defeating Jordan and cause it to slide in three polls.
16 (17) 124 Starkville (Mississippi) 18 17 21 19 6
Starkville has become the center of the football universe as both Mississippi State and Starkville High are being ranked among the elite teams in the country. This week it was another shutout with a blankings of Greenville. There could be more upward movement with a game against Madison Central on the horizon.
17 (13) 119 Bellevue (Washington) 9 9 6 21
Bellevue took a major tumble as the HSFB100 dropped the Wolverines out of its Top 25 to No. 27, costing the team 23 points in the rankings. It slid one spot at Scout while remaining unchanged otherwise. The team is being judged mostly on its out-of-state games and Serra (Gardena, CA) continues to underwhelm, pulling Belleuve down with it. Its other OOS win was against Alta (Sandy, UT) which has been outscored 140-285 on the season and just won its first game, ‘improving’ to 1-7.
18 (16) 117 Skyline (Dallas, TX) 23 16 20 15 14
Skyline dropped three places in the HSFB100 as well as the Computer model and did not improve its standing in any poll. It blanked a punchless Nimitz team this week and will roll into the playoffs without a test the rest of the regular season.
19 (21) 80 Punahou (Honolulu, HI) 22 24 9 17
The Buff ‘N Blue rolled to another victory in Hawaii and impressed the Computer to the tune of a six-spot improvement in its ranking. The rest of the polls held relatively steady with the HSFB100 and USAToday continuning to hold off ranking the best team from the island state.
20 (19) 88 Manvel (Texas) 7 17 11
All three polls that have Manvel ranked slid it back one position this week despite beating a very solid Pearland Dawson team, 62-35. It has a Halloween showdown with Pearland that is currently ranked in the Scout poll. A win there may push the Mavericks into a fourth poll.
21 (24) 86 Rummel (Metarie, LA) 20 11 24 23
Rummel gained a fourth placement this week with Maxpreps putting the team in at No. 24 from the land of the unranked. It got a breather against Shaw as compared to its previous weeks but has to go right back after it this week versus St. Augustine. The Raiders could be a threat for a Top 10 finish with an unblemished state title.
22 (25) 85 Carmel (Indiana) 18 23 25 13
The Greyhounds also added MaxPreps to make a fourth poll this week and it jumped three places in the Media Compilation. In addition to those points it also moved up 10 spots in the Computer poll.
23 (20) 81 Cedar Hill (Texas) 24 19 22 18
Cedar Hill slid backwards this week in the Compilation poll as it has been the most bounced around program in the rankings. As has been written the team can cement its place with a win against No. 7 DeSoto or kiss it goodbye with a loss in two weeks.
24 (23) 75 Mainland (Daytona Beach, FL) 11 20 17
Mainland got position jockeying among the three polls that is is curerntly ranked. The Buccaneers it moved up four spots in the HSFB100 after dominating Oviedo but dropped in MaxPreps and PrepNation after the win. It has its opportunity in front of it with a playoff path that would include Miami Central and Armwood.
25 (–) 47 Webb City (Missouri) 16 19
With the lowest point total for a No. 25 team of the season the top team from Missouri makes a move into the Media Compilation Poll. Being included is vastly superior to being on the outside looking in. The Cardinals crushed Rockhurt (Kansas City, MO) and Har-Ber (Springdale, AR) earlier in the year and has continued to march through Missouri with an effective running attack.
