Colquitt County (Moultrie, GA) put a stamp on its place atop the state of Georgia with a 45-27 victory over Lowndes (Valdosta, GA) on Friday night and is now the first team from the state to take a Top 10 ranking in the HSFB100 as October opens.
The Packers moved to No. 7 — up from No. 11 — with the victory.
Coming out of a bye week there was concern that Colquitt County would not be sharp — a lack of focus has plagued the team over the last six years — and it showed its rust early but overcame it in the second half.
Colquitt County opened the game with a 12-play drive that covered 73 yards and was capped by quarterback Chase Paarrish calling his own number for a 7-yard run.
On the next possession Lowndes went immediately to trick plays and converted a double reverse pass from running back Demarcus Jackson to Xavier Jenkins on an 84-yard touchdown.
Colquitt then threw an interception for a touchdown and trailed, 14-7.
The Packers responded with another touchdown drive to tie the score and following big hit on defense by Bull Barge forced a fumble resulting in another Packer score it was 21-14.
Penalties appeared to thwart another touchdown for Colquitt County when a holding call negated an 80-yard rush. Instead of an explosive play the team methodically drove 90 yards for the score to take a 28-14 lead.
Mounting its only drive of the game, Lowndes responded with a touchdown to get back within seven entering halftime but it would never be that close again.
Zay Lewis intercepted passes on the first two Lonwdes possessions of the second half and the scored stretched to 38-21.
It added a third Sihiem King rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to set the final margin and open Region 1-6A with the 45-27 victory.
The win was the was the third nationally relevant victory for the Packers on the season a it downed Mill Creek (Hoschton, GA) and Hoover (AL) to open the season 31-14 and 35-14, respectively.
Colquitt County still has two HSFB100 opponents on its schedule with a game at Valdosta (GA) and home for Camden County (Kingsland, GA) prior to the playoffs.
The rest of the moves are below in the updated HSFB100:

RK (L) | TEAM CITY (ST) | RECORD | LAST WEEK
1 (1) | Don Bosco Ramsey (NJ) | 3-0 | Idle
Don Bosco flew back from Florida and took the week off, resting its dinged players for the showdown with Paramus Catholic this week. It remained the top team in the HSFB100 but will face a stiff test on Saturday.
2 (2) | De La Salle Concord (CA) | 6-0 | def. San Ramon Valley, 70-14
The Spartans are in the nationally irrelevant portion of the schedule as it has not lost to a NorCal foe in over 250 games. The 70-14 win over San Ramon Valley is checking the box.
3 (4) | Bishop Gorman Las Vegas (NV) | 7-0 | def. Shadow Ridge, 56-0
The Gaels came out of a brutal stretch unblemished and was able to maintain its focus as it got onto the field against its first Nevada opponent. There simply isn’t a team in that state that will give Bishop Gorman a game. A Top 5 finish has already been sewn up for all intents and purposes so the team just needs to keep winning.
4 (5) | Allen (Texas) | 6-0 | def. Lewisville, 49-13
Allen got a few early stops and was able to roll on to a 49-13 victory against Lewisville. The result was nothing exciting as most everyone is waiting on the game with Plano West in a few weeks to see what to make of this Allen defense.
5 (6) | DeSoto (Texas) | 5-0 | Idle
DeSoto stayed on the tail of Allen despite being on a bye week. It could jump the Eagles for the top spot after its showdown with Cedar Hill in two weeks.
6 (7) | Manvel (Texas) | 5-0 | def. South Houston, 52-7
More people are buying into Manvel this season and the Mavericks are pushing close to the Top 5. South Houston is not the test that Pearland Dawson will be this coming week.
7 (11) | Colquitt County Moultrie (GA) | 6-0 | def. Lowndes, 45-27
STOCK UP: The Packers gained a nice boost this week in defeating Lowndes. There is an outside chance that this team could make a run at a HSFB100 National Title as its strength of schedule could see dramatic improvment in the final months of the season. Being undefeated at the end may make it tough to keep Colquitt County out of the Top 5.
8 (8) | Booker T. Washington Miami (FL) | 6-0 | Idle
The Tornadoes were idle this week and maintained its spot in the national ranking. It will play Miami Northwestern this coming week. The Bulls are unbeaten at 4-0 but has three wins by a combined 10 points against teams quite inferior to Booker T. Washington.
9 (14) | St. John Bosco Bellflower (CA) | 4-1 | def. Crenshaw, 65-7
This was an adjustment week in California and we didn’t feel like St. John Bosco was properly ranked at No. 4 in the state. It was moved back to No. 2 and climbed up a few spots nationally as well.
10 (3) | Mater Dei Santa Ana (CA) | 5-0 | def. Westlake, 28-27
Mater Dei escaped with a victory against Westlake this week and while it was a quality win it was questionable. There is a theory that the team was looking forward to its showdown with St. John Bosco this coming week. That theory will be tested on Friday and the rankings will be adjusted accordingly.
11 (12) | Miami Central (Florida) | 5-1 | def. Homestead, 49-0
The Rockets defense is simply too good for most teams and its offense is rounding into shape as its players gain experience. There is starting to be a debate about if the Rockets would beat Booker T. Washington if the two were to play again. Central is going to need to stay focused for the playoffs and not imaginary rematches.
12 (9) | Folsom (California) | 6-0 | def. Del Oro, 42-7
Like De La Salle there is not a team in NorCal that can play with Folsom right now. Del Oro is generally regarded as a quality team but it was little resistance. It is too bad there is no Open Regional Bowl game as the debate between Folsom and the Spartans is only hypothetical this year.
13 (13) | Bingham South Jordan (UT) | 6-1 | def. Alta, 35-3
Bingham is simply too good this season for Utah competition. It nearly knocked off Bishop Gorman before falling in overtime and has now defeated two of the better teams within its state 59-3 the last two weeks.
14 (15) | St. Thomas Aquinas Ft. Lauderdale (FL) | 4-1 | def. South Broward, 70-0
The Raiders are into the checking the box portion of its schedule as well. It downed South Broward 70-0 but it is hard to gain information on a team against competition it is expected to dominate in that manner.
15 (16) | Mainland Daytona Beach (FL) | 6-0 | def. Deltona, 35-0
The Mainland defense continues to shine and its offense was good enough again. It will be tested this week by Oviedo on a Thursday night clash that could push the Buccaneers back closer to the Top 10.
16 (17) | Buford (Georgia) | 5-0 | def. Chestatee, 54-7
There are only so many ways to write that the best of the Buford schedule is in the rearview mirror. The playoffs shold provide a few more proving ground games for the Wolves.
17 (28) | Paramus Catholic (New Jersey) | 5-0 | def. No. 92 Bergen Cathlic, 44-7
STOCK UP: The defensive line for Paramus Catholic is fast and phyiscal and can disrupt most any offense. The offense is explosive but can be slowed with the right scheme and has already survived a pretty terrible game this season. The gap between the top three teams in New Jersey and the next three appears to be pretty great right now. That theory will be tested this week as Paramus Catholic will play Don Bosco in a game that could show the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 is stll pretty wide as well.
18 (10) | Bellevue (Washington) | 5-0 | def. Glacier Park, 30-0
The buoy that is Bellevue was pushed further out to sea this week its best win was marginalized with Serra (Gardena, CA) struggling for the second straight week but actually falling this time. Serra could end as a four-loss team which may drag the Wolverines down with it.
19 (18) | Dallas Skyline (Texas) | 5-0 | def. Dallas Jesuit, 56-30
It is hard to criticize a near 30-point victory but the sporadic defense is tough as Skyline has allowed a lot of points this season. On the opposite side of the debate is that Jesuit has an explosive offense so it is somewhat understandable. There is nothing left on the regular season schedule that should test Skyline.
20 (35) | Alemany Mission Hills (CA) | 5-0 | def. No. 67 Chaminade, 55-38
STOCK UP: Alemany came out of the bye in impressive fashion by setting school records against a nationally relevant opponent. THe team is into the Top 25 and could be a threat for much moreif it can keep rolling.
21 (20) | Cedar Hill (Texas) | 4-1 | def. Midlothian, 56-27
Cedar Hill bettered Midlothian with a 30-plus point victory. It was a good offensive display but one that was expected. Its game with DeSoto in a few weeks means a lot more.
22 (20) | Flanagan Pembroke Pines (FL) | 5-0 | def. Everglades, 36-3
Despite being jumped in the rankings by two teams there is still a lot of things to like from Flanagan this season. It could have one of the best defenses in Florida — if not the best — and that says a lot with what Miami Central and Mainland bring to the party.
23 (21) | Rummel Metarie (LA) | 5-0 | def. Dutchtown, 37-6
Rummel gained a quality win over Dutchtown this week and maintained its placement. It was a nationally relevant victory and another rather dominant performance.
24 (22) | Starkville (Mississippi) | 6-0 | def. Northwest Rankin, 42-0
The top of Mississippi is looking very good with Starkville, South Panola, and Oak Grove all being ranked this week. Starkville still feels like the best of the group and it is playing well on both sides of the ball.
25 (24) | Clay-Chalkville Pinson (AL) | 6-0 | def. Center Point, 40-0
Clay-Chalkville downed Center Point in an easy contest but will take a major step up in competition this week. It will be the first Top 50, regular season contest between Alabama teams in the history of the HSFB100 when it travels to Shades Valley.
26 (32) | Mountain Pointe Phoenix (AZ) | 6-1 | def. Desert Vista, 49-14
27 (33) | Chandler (Arizona) | 5-1 | def. No. 78 Hamilton, 56-24
28 (25) | Cy-Fair Cypress (TX) | 5-0 | def. Cy-Ridge, 42-7
29 (27) | St. Peter’s Prep Jersey City (NJ) | 3-1 | Idle
30 (26) | Centennial Corona (CA) | 3-2 | def. Valencia, 72-35
31 (36) | Punahou Honolulu (HI) | 5-0 | def. Pac-Five, 68-0
32 (37) | Dorman Roebuck (SC) | 7-0 | def.Mauldin, 54-14
33 (38) | Dutch Fork Irmo (SC) | 4-2 | def. Irmo, 27-7
34 (39) | Byrnes Duncan (SC) | 5-1 | def. Spartanburg, 45-41
35 (31) | Hoover (Alabama) | 4-2 | def. Spain Park, 42-14
36 (42) | American Heritage Plantation (FL) | 3-2 | def. Jackson, 45-16
37 (43) | Destrehan (Louisiana) | 5-0 | def. Hahnville, 24-6
38 (45) | Long Beach Poly (California) | 5-1 | def. Compton, 99-9
39 (29) | Southlake Carroll (Texas) | 5-0 | def. Coppell, 28-24
STOCK DOWN: The Dragons needded a last-minute comback to defeat Coppell in district play. The team will need to bounce back quickly as Euless Trinity is on the horizon for an Oct. 17 showdown.
40 (30) | Union Tulsa (OK) | 4-1 | def. Norman North, 56-21
41 (51) | Grayson Loganville (GA) | 6-0 | def. South Gwinnett, 42-0
42 (41) | Servite Anaheim (CA) | 3-2 | Idle
43 (46) | Blackman Murfreesboro (TN) | 7-0 | def. LaVergne, 42-17
44 (77) | Carmel (Indiana) | 7-0 | def. Ben Davis, 37-14
STOCK UP: Carmel has made an impressive run through some of the top teams in Indiana. This spot probably could have waited until the coming showdown with Warren Central but it felt like the right time to buy into Carm

71 (69) | Guyer Denton (TX) | 4-1 | def. Justin Northwest, 43-33
STOCK DOWN: Denton Guyer continues its slide as its performances have been unimpressive at best. The Wildcats have plenty of talent but its best win is over Ennis but Mansfield Timberview has that same claim as well as a better loss. The Guyer bandwagon is lightening as the season progresses.

STOCK DOWN: A week after buying in on Wood with a green arrow the team tumbles quickly and changes colors to the red arrow. Thre is still a school of thought thtat this is the best team in the state but it may be hard to prove that true a it going forward.
